Abstract

The Northern Triangle of Central America (NTCA) formed by Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, is a region characterized by its economic and cultural integration but mainly by migratory flows due to generalized violence and inequality. People fleeing violence or political persecution are eligible for international protection status under the refugee convention of 1951. However, other factors that are not recognized by Refugee law, such as the effects of climate change, natural disasters and the destruction of ecosystems, bring into discussion the need for a favorable reading that grants international protection to displaced persons coming from the Northern Triangle and seeking refuge mainly in the United States of America.
