Abstract

In the following article, we synthesize an investigation on the memories of the reconstruction process of the archaeological site called “Sacred City of Quilmes” in the province of Tucumán, between 1977 and 1981, within the framework of the self-proclaimed “National Reorganization Process”. We analyzed the various meanings that were attributed to this event through the survey of documentary narratives found in newspapers, official publications, and the Historical Archive of the Government House of Tucumán; and the fieldwork in the Quilmes Indian Community and the Amaicha del Valle Indigenous Community. We problematized the traditional historiographic approach, proposing a non-linear reading of the time in which the events of the recent past are located in the present, i.e. a present reading of the past. In addition, we incorporated subaltern stories that were omitted or silenced during the reconstruction process, in order to understand the complexity of meanings and the diversity of actors involved in the disputes over social memories.
